the projectile(s) - either a bullet, pellets or a slug
casing - usually brass (rifles/handguns) or plastic (shotguns)
powder - once ignited it turns into a rapidly expanding gas that pushes out he projectile
primer - explodes once the hammer hits it

Calibers and Gauges
The caliber and gauge are measures of the size of the bullet/shotshell
